Optimized Mass Timber

Scroll
A multi-storey timber frame with NERVI's nerved, waffle-like floor slabs spanning between slender columns.

Material only where the structure needs it.

Conventional mass timber uses the same thick, uniform section everywhere, regardless of where the loads actually are. Our structural components vary in section and add mass only where needed.

Targets

30–50% Less material than conventional mass-timber systems
20–30% Cost advantage over competing systems
IV-A / B / C Tall-timber coverage across IBC construction types

Uniform section

A single thickness carried across the whole panel, sized for its worst-loaded point. Everywhere else, the excess is paid for in timber, in transport, and in the foundations that have to carry it.

NERVI section

Thickness varies within each component as needed, with nerves that reinforce the key structural directions.

Software, product and fabrication developed together.

Software

Structural optimization engine

Our design systems link a component's geometry to its structural behaviour, deciding where material can be removed or added.

Product

Variable section components

A proprietary mass-timber layup produces single parts, mass-customized to each build.

Manufacturing

Reconfigurable fabrication system

One setup, many geometries. Components of varying shape and section run without retooling.

Our vision, savings that compound through the whole building.

Where we are

Early-stage R&D, moving from digital proof to fabricated part.

Now

Digital proofs of concept: structural, fabrication-system and material-forming validation.

Next

Physical prototypes demonstrating structural, fire and water performance.

Then

Automated robotic fabrication of components, end to end.

Scaling

Cell integration into existing facilities, plus micro-factories near demand.
